"I have been making stuff with my hands since as early as I can remember. I make stuff, it's just what I do."

Monolith Knives - Virginia

From their Charlottesville, Virginia workshop, Monolith Knives embodies a rare harmony of form, function, and philosophy. Founded by Zack Worrell and carried forward with Nick Watson, Monolith exists at the intersection of sculpture, architecture, and toolmaking—a studio where each knife is conceived not merely as an object, but as a vessel for purpose and permanence.

Zack’s creative roots run deep. Raised in a family of artists, his early life was shaped by drawing, woodworking, and the tactile rhythm of making. His work in architecture and historical restoration instilled a reverence for materials shaped by time and use. In 2013, those influences converged to form Monolith—a name that evokes endurance, simplicity, and strength. His philosophy remains unwavering: to create tools with soul, objects that embody utility and grace in equal measure.

Nick Watson joined the studio in 2016, bringing a refined design sensibility informed by his background in fine art and architecture. His eye for proportion and spatial balance—sharpened through years of creative study—translates seamlessly into the physical language of steel and wood. After earning his Master’s in Architecture, Nick returned to Monolith with renewed perspective, merging conceptual design with the traditions of fine toolmaking.

Together, Zack and Nick forge knives that honor history while embracing modern design. Each piece, from hand-forged blades to luxurious steak knife sets, carries their shared belief that the tools we use daily should inspire reflection, connection, and care. In every Monolith creation, craftsmanship meets contemplation—utility becomes art.
