Meet The Makers

José Regueiro - Michigan

With over four decades of fine craft and design experience now under his belt, José Regueiro looks fondly on many of his earliest memories: time spent accompanying his father to the university engineering department he ran to explore the labs, shops, and endless possibilities. Drawing and working with wood were José’s first creative endeavors, his imagination always on the move, and, unbeknownst to him at the time, the beginning of what would prove a lifelong passion for creating with his hands.

Graduating from high school in 1979, José found his first job at a local woodworking shop, and only two years later he opened his own studio in 1981. He has not looked back. A singular focus on the functional design of objects which are intended to integrate seamlessly with their surroundings has positioned José’s work as amongst the most desirable in the world. Painstaking efforts to source the highest quality raw ingredients results in finished products that show the grain, character, and story of each material’s natural origins. His work has been exhibited in the Detroit Institute of Arts, El Museo del Barrio in NYC, and in the Cooper Hewitt’s National Design Museum Latino Hispanic Archive.
