“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and head is a craftsman. He who works with hands, head, and heart is an artist.” -St Francis of Assisi
Meet The Makers
Isaiah Schroeder - Wisconsin
From his Madison, Wisconsin shop Isaiah Schroeder launched Schroeder Knifeworks in 2010 in order to pursue the creation of handmade chef knives and other culinary tools. His journey, though, began much earlier. His Grandmother is credited with introducing
Isaiah to woodwork as a child and the flame was lit. He went on to make fine furniture and jewelry, endeavors which positioned him well to explore, and eventually dedicate his days, to knife making. Isaiah now crafts one-of-a-kind moribashi chopsticks, custom kitchen knives, and other high quality culinary tools, sacrificing neither form nor function along the way. An innovative design sense and willingness to combine uncommon ingredients into functional works of art has set Isaiah’s work apart. Recent objects have included collaborative elements courtesy of his talented wife, Rebecca, whose decorative engravings supply the perfect complement to Isaiah’s hand craft.
